A Word From Our Pastor…
I want to tell you about three things happening over the next two weeks that signal to me a changing of the seasons.
1. Falling leaves everywhere! What happened over the last few days? I think all the leaves hanging on trees around my house decided it was time to let go. My yard is covered, and with the rain moving through tomorrow, there is sure to be plenty to rake and remove over the weekend. What is your favorite method for removing leaves from your yard? Old fashioned rake and garbage bags? How about the mower/mulcher? Blower? Do you just bite the bullet and pay someone to do it for you? My preferred method is a rake and a big tarp. These handy dandy things help a bunch too.
2. Advent starts next weekend. Can you believe it? Thanksgiving is next week and with it comes the beginning of Advent. I hope you get some quality time with your family next week and much-needed rest. After the Egg Bowl, family gatherings, and maybe a little shopping, come help us get the Christmas season kicked off next Sunday with our Hanging of the Greens service at 5:00 PM in the Sanctuary. It will be a fun, festive worship experience for our church family. We will decorate for the holidays, sing some of our favorite Advent hymns, and end the evening with an Advent Family Celebration in the Worship Center. We will also bring back an old Clinton Methodist tradition thanks to the Nye Family. Don’t miss it!
3. Our Advent sermon series will be “The Carols of Christmas.” Each week we will sing some of the most popular Christmas carols while sharing the stories that inspired them. Christ has broken into our world and lives to bring the gifts of hope, peace, joy, and love. His coming inspires a new song and new possibilities. He comes to awaken our desires and stir up our dreams of what is possible. The songs of Christmas tell this story, and that’s why we love to sing them. This is going to be a fun series that keeps us focused on the message of Christmas throughout Advent.
Finally, one more thing. This Sunday will be Commitment Sunday in both services. You will have the opportunity to consecrate and offer your pledge of support to our church’s mission and ministry for the upcoming year. Debbie and I will be making an increase in our pledge for 2026, and we invite you to consider doing the same. We believe our church is “Moving Forward by Faith” and accomplishing good things for Christ. Therefore, we are joyfully supporting it through our tithes and offerings. Join us in offering your prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness too!
Ever Grateful for You!
Jimmy
