July 19, 2026 – What Do You Boast In – Jeremiah 9:23-24

Jeremiah 9:23-24 warns against relying on human achievements—wisdom, strength, or wealth—and instead calls believers to find their ultimate pride, worth, and confidence in deeply knowing and understanding the character of God.

The verses break down into two core themes:

• The Rejection of Human Boasting (v. 23): The passage highlights three things people often take pride in: intellectual wisdom, physical strength or power, and material riches. Because earthly circumstances (like the looming Babylonian exile) can wipe these away overnight, they are inherently fragile and inadequate as a foundation for life.
• The Command to Boast in God (v. 24): True wisdom, security, and glory come from having an active, relational knowledge of God. Believers are called to boast in His specific attributes: steadfast love (lovingkindness), justice, and righteousness. Because these are the very things God delights in, imitating and aligning one’s life with them is the highest human calling.
