A WORD FROM OUR PASTOR…

Hey everybody!

We have had an inspiring week of worship over the last few days! It was so amazing to see the efforts of so many volunteers and staff come to life through our Holy Week and Easter worship services and Egg-stravaganza family event. You all did an amazing job of sharing the heart and message of Jesus with our community. Thank you for all you gave to make this a very special season.

I have three things for you this weekend.

1. Baccalaureate Sunday is this weekend. We will honor the accomplishments of seven high school seniors this Sunday and recognize those that are graduating from college or graduate school. There will be recognitions in both the 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. worship services. Following worship, there will be a reception in the Family Life Building honoring our high school seniors. We hope you will come before or after Sunday school to see their tables wonderfully decorated with memorabilia sharing their unique journey. Congratulations, Seniors! We are proud of your accomplishments!

2. Church volunteers receive recognition. Our church was recognized as a Stewpot Church of the Year for our volunteer service to the Billy Brumfield House, a men’s shelter in Jackson. The award was received on Thursday morning at their Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast. The Beginnings, Wesley Fellowship, and Rasbery Sunday school classes have been providing a home-cooked meal for shelter residents each month for more than 20 years! Wow! What amazing dedication this group has given to this ministry. I volunteered with them this past Monday night, and I can tell you the men love their food and their heart of service. It was a privilege to serve alongside them. Well done, guys!

3. “Created Human: A Theology of the Body” Series begins on May 4th! We live in a world flooded with messages – some loud, others subtle- about what our bodies should look like, feel like, and be worth. But what does God say about our human bodies? In this 4-week series, we will explore a Biblical perspective of the body, identity, and what it means to be made in God’s image. We will ask the following questions: Why do our bodies matter? Who defines what it means to be human? And how do we give our whole selves – body, mind, and spirit- to God?

I hope to see you this Sunday!

Jimmy
